MATERIAL COMPARISON

Choose NR, EPDM or silicone by service conditions

Natural rubber, EPDM and silicone are separate gasket families, not interchangeable colors of the same material. The correct choice depends on the filled medium, operating temperature, outdoor exposure, compression cycle and required cross-section. Jinyu supplies custom inner diameter, width, height and D, O or rectangular profiles for metal lid and vessel-cover grooves.

Reference temperature ranges describe the material family and are not a universal service guarantee. Actual performance changes with the compound, contact time, pressure, lid finish and cleaning process. For chemical or food-related service, the safest approval path is a drawing review followed by material samples and a controlled compatibility or leak test.

Material Reference temperature Where it fits Important limitation
Natural rubber (NR) -50 to 80 °C High rebound for selected oil-free media and UN or clamp-cover projects. Avoid oils and fuels; confirm compound and medium compatibility.
EPDM -40 to 150 °C Weather, UV, water-based products and general outdoor industrial packaging. Strong solvents and hydrocarbons require an immersion test.
Silicone -60 to 200 °C+ High-temperature, food-related and special chemical projects with custom profiles. Temperature capability depends on compound, exposure time and compression.

Material selection sequence

Begin with the media family and temperature window, then confirm weather exposure and closing force. After the material family is selected, the section is sized so the gasket fills the groove without excessive compression. A sample ring should be tested in the production lid because section tolerances and joint quality affect the final seal.

RUBBER GASKET FAQ

Questions to resolve before ordering

Is EPDM suitable for every chemical product?

No. EPDM is commonly selected for weather, water-based and outdoor applications, but strong solvents and hydrocarbons require testing with the actual formulation.

When is silicone preferred over EPDM?

Silicone is considered when the project needs a wider temperature window, a food-related compound option or a special profile. Final selection still depends on the filled medium and compliance scope.

Why is a lid drawing required for a custom rubber ring?

The groove width, depth, diameter and closing geometry determine the section size and compression. Diameter alone is not enough to confirm a reliable gasket.
